Kerals.com - a thief who stalks its victims?

This week the biggest story in the Malayalam blog-o-sphere is the content theft by Kerals.com. So many bloggers complained about their articles being blatantly copied and hosted for profit by Kerals.com violating its copyright.

Previously also such events had happened. More or less, those companies took away such content immediately. Whether they publicly apologized is a different issue.

Here their response was drastically different. The started threatening people and cyber-stalking them.

People have traced their hosting sites and other businesses. Looks like they are into pornography as well. If that is true, very shady indeed. I wonder how people just sign up for such a site or even go there without worrying about what happens to their personal data. I wish Malayalam bloggers just need to slap a class action lawsuit against them.

Update2: Kerals.com has shutdown their entire Malayalam literature section. Only jokes and recipes remain open. Why would they do that?! Couldn't they just remove copyright violated entries? May be the whole articles in the literature section is stolen. What else could be the explanation? Wow! What a company!

Update 4: Kerals.com apologizes in their Malayalam section.

"Dear All - Please accept our most sincere apology for Shiva Kumar's behavior to some fellow bloggers...We realized how much this has inconvenienced the victim and how angry the victim must have be and have been. After many thought we took the decision to block all his access to this site... We are working with his registrar to took down the new domain he have registered recently.. "

Update 5: Stalking site inpennu.com is now suspended.

സംഗതി ഇതാണ്‌. വരമൊഴിയിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ കുറേ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്‌ വാക്കുകളുടെ മലയാളം ഉണ്ട്‌ - school എന്നെഴുതിയാൽ 'സ്കൂൾ' വരുന്ന സൂത്രപ്പണി. എന്നാൽ അവ വളരെ കുറവാണുതാനും. ഇതിനെ ഒന്ന് വിപുലീകരിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമം കുറേ നാളായി തുടങ്ങിയിട്ട്‌; എങ്ങും എത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. അരമണിക്കൂർ ചിലവാക്കാൻ പറ്റുമെങ്കിൽ സഹായിക്കണം.

ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിത്രമാത്രം. ഈ ലിങ്കിലേയ്ക്ക്‌ പോവുക. അവിടെ abc - archenemy എന്നിങ്ങനെ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്ന ഏതെങ്കിലും ലിങ്കിൽ ക്ലിക്ക്‌ ചെയ്യുക. അവിടെയുള്ള 30 സെക്ഷനുകളിൽ ഏതിലെങ്കിലും എഡിറ്റ്‌ ചെയ്യാൻ തുടങ്ങുക. സാധാരണ മലയാളത്തിൽ ഉപയോഗിച്ചുകാണാറുള്ള വാക്കുകളുടെ മുന്നിൽ ഒരു സ്റ്റാറിടുക(*); സേവ്‌ ചെയ്യുക.

Exhibition on Malayalam Language Technology Products & Software

A six days Exhibition of Malayalam Language Technology Products and Software is being held from October 29^th to 3^rd November 2007 at VJT Hall, Thiruvananthapuram. titled ‘malayalam innale innu – (Malayalam Yesterday and Today)’ The exhibition is a part of Malayala Sammelanam – of Keralappiravi Celebration 2007 (Kerala Formation Day Celebration), which includes book and cultural exhibition, seminars, etc.

The exhibition on Cyber Malayalam aims to assess the state of the art status of Malayalam language in the cyber world. It intends to exhibit the latest status of Malayalam language software, products and online resources. The exhibition will definitely provide a platform to display, exhibit, demonstrate and discuss all the products and initiatives on Malayalam language computing.

The natural languages like Malayalam are processed for many applications and the subject is most relevant today in the context of e-governance and localisation. Development of operating systems in Malayalam, Standardisation and Unification of Fonts, text/ word processing issues, DTP and data entry, spell and grammar checking, information retrieval, software for man machine interaction, web publishing, lexical and grammatical resource making, corpora building, speech and text processing, semantics and word sense disambiguation, Machine translation, computer aided language teaching, etc. are some the areas which are being seriously discussed and studied.

Many agencies both governmental and private are involved in developing software and systems with different objectives. The Govt. of India, in its initiatives like Technology Development for Indian Languages (TDIL), e-governance, etc. encourages all such initiatives in local languages computing and provides required fund for them and Malayalam one of the language gets a little share.

The display, exhibition, demonstration and discussion will help one another to both the developers and users as well the public to know all about the subject and assess how much the language have achieved in its efforts in the localisation context and a clear picture of the same will help to all those who are interested including the vendors and public.
